This story by Agatha Christie was both thrilling and tastefull.
The story takes place in England where James Sheppard is the doctor for a town called King's Abbot. One night Roger Ackroyd, the town's wealthiest man, invited Dr. Sheppard for dinner. Mr. Ackroyd was well known and a kind person, but someone had been blackmailing him. He expressed his concern for the blackmail with Dr. Sheppard after dinner. After talking the doctor bid Mr. Ackroyd farewell and went home. After the doctor arrived home he recieved a call that Mr. Ackroyd was dead! Dr. Sheppard rushed back to the Ackroyd household, only to find that no such call had been made. The butler Parker and the doctor went into Roger's study just to make sure he was okay and they found his study door locked. When they knocked the door down they found Roger Ackroyd murdered with a knife in his neck.
There were many suspects for this case. The suspects included all of the maids, Parker the butler, Miss Russell the housemaid, Roger's niece Miss Flora Ackroyd, Mr. Raymond the accountant, Roger's friend Major Blunt, Roger's adopted step son Ralph Paton and a stranger that the doctor encountered shortly after leaving the Ackroyd household. Much of the speculation lay on Ralph Paton, who had gone missing and who was also Flora's fiancee. To prove her fiancee was innocent, Flora requested the help of Dr. Sheppard's next door neighbor Hercule Poirot, who was a retired private investigator. Throughout the story Poirot and Sheppard examined every suspect, motive and clue to try to prove who killed Roger Ackroyd. Just as the private investigator assumed, everyone had a secret to hide. The most thrilling part of the story was the end, when it was Dr. Sheppard who was the one that killed Roger Ackroyd.

Brittany Matthews Chicken Soup For the Teenage Soul on Tough Stuff
My book isn't just one story, it is a multitude of stories that teenagers our age can relate to. From drugs, suicide attempts, and addictions to family matters and abuse. The people tell their stories and all of them are a 100% true. Some even have hotline numbers to call. They give insight in these stories and let other teens know that they are not alone in some cases and people go through the same thing on a daily basis. For example, divorce is one of the most common cases in these stories. These stories grasp what teen life is like and even though most of them are not happy stories, there is always a lesson learned in most cases. Some peoples stories that are in this book didn't even live to write it meaning they are deceased because of the Tough Stuff in these stories. There are also alot of poems in this book that are creative and have a story behind them. Some ryhme and some just flow, but they all have a message to bring and a story to tell. This book is full of Stories that all teens are going through and having hard times with, but at least it is a way that teens can actually relate their stories to without feeling like they aree the only one.

Emily DeBlasi - Sail
The book Sail by James Patterson is about a woman named Katherine Dunne. She lost her husband in a scuba diving incident off their boat called The Family Dunne. Ever since Katherine's husband died her family hasn't been the same. Her three kids Carrie, Mark, and Ernie have been miserable ever since their father died, and they became even more miserable when their mother decided to remarry. The new man that Katherine decided to marry was a lawyer named Peter Carlyle. Katherine decided that she wanted to do something fun with her family this summer to lighten up their moods. So she decided that they would all take a boating trip together as a family, except that her new husband would not be attending because he claimed that he had to stay home because of his job. When really he claimed he could not go because he was really plotting to kill them. This book is really suspenseful. It has a really interesting plot that makes you want to keep on reading for more.

It
The month of October is filled with spooky movies, creepy ghouls, and clowns? You may think that clowns are the happy-go-lucky sort of entertainment, but not after you read Stephan King's It. Now, this wasn't my first choice to read, thinking of re-reading Philippa Gregory's novel The Other Boylen Girl was first on my list, however it's the month of scaring the living daylights out of people, and it is completely fine to start a new book.
Taking on the daunting task of reading an 1,093 page book is definetly a challege but increadiably woth it. The masterful writer, who has published plentiful of books, creates this ingeniuos idea to write about everyone's (or at least most of ours) number one fear - Clowns. Starting out with just a teaser, George Denbourgh encounter's the horrid clown down in a sewer, just after playing with his paper boat. Mr. King sets a realistic scene of the encounter, making me want to read more every single second. The story continues to follow a group of children who all have their encounter with It, one way or another; through photo albums, balloons, and sewer drains. Growing up, lives shaken the main characters to their bones. The image of It, burns my memory everytime I close my eyes.
I've only read 385 pges but plan on finishing the book. It may be long, but if you are looking for a good fright with an intersting plot, I deeply recomend this book. Hopefully you won't make the mistake of reading at 2 AM, with darkness surrounding you, as I did.

Farenheit 451
Dear English III Juniors,
I'm the 5th period PAL that you never see. I've set up this blog so that you can get extra credit for your 1st quarter recreational reading. I am reading the book Farenheit 451 and I will be giving you examples on how your entry's should look. You will need a minimum of 3 entries; #1 First impression, #2 Mid Read comments, #3 Final Summary/ Recomendation
Entry #1: Initial response to the book.
I have been quite surpried this year, that I am actually enjoying a book that has been assigned to me. Science fiction has always intrigued me, but there is something about this book that is new to me. It was written during the late 1940's right after Hitler's reign ended. It's about how the future world would be if Hitler had succeeded in his plot to take over. In this negative world, a distopia, reading books are against the law.
